This 3D model faithfully reproduces the Bauer 88 G, a compact 8 mm motion picture camera manufactured in West Germany in 1959 by Eugen Bauer GmbH, a division of Robert Bosch GmbH. Every element of the model has been recreated with close attention to the original industrial design, from the curved die-cast metal body and hammered paint finish to the precise placement of the dials, shutter release, and film compartment.
The model includes accurate proportions and PBR-ready materials for realistic renders. Textures cover metallic surfaces, painted finishes, and glass reflections, allowing it to fit seamlessly into product visualization, museum reconstructions, or vintage prop scenes. All elements are rigged and named logically for easy use in animation, visualization, or VR environments.
Historically, the Bauer 88 G marked a turning point in mid-century home cinematography. Introduced by Eugen Bauer GmbH—a Stuttgart-based optical and projection equipment maker founded in 1905—it featured a fixed Rodenstock-Ronar 12.5 mm f/1.9 lens and a CdS light sensor for semi-automatic exposure. Bauer’s engineering quality and Bosch’s precision manufacturing made the 88 series popular among advanced amateurs before 8 mm film eventually gave way to Super 8 and video formats.
Eugen Bauer operated under the Bosch Photokino division until production ceased in the early 1980s. The Bauer name remains a symbol of German optical craftsmanship and design heritage.
