1/11
This creature is the second prototype of a private project I called Limited Edition (in reference to the art gallery founded by Mr. Elijah Price in the 2000 film Unbreakable): a set of exclusive monsters and creatures, made available for download by artists and collectors on the CGtrader platform. As a starting point, I selected The Thing (2011) as the first film to revisit, due to my affection for the production and my veneration for the 1982 classic of the same name. The Juliette Thing is the third manifestation of the Thing in the film; it is also its first female embodiment in the series. The first sketches of its appearance were drawn by Grandmasters Gills and Woodruff Jr., and its first sculpt was created by Master Paul Komoda. From this, the 1:1 model was created, which served as the basis for the complex costume used later. My version took into account the 1:1 model from ADI Studios; the costume derived from it (including a prosthetic leg, which is not visible in the film); the face of actress Kim Bubbs (who plays Juliette); and some final takes, already with the addition of CGI. The biggest challenge in this case was sculpting Juliette's clothes and the creature's female head. In the end, I wanted to give Bubbs's face a more cartoonish tone, with smaller lips and more expressive eyes.
