DESCRIPTION

The conquest of the Hornets Hive System cost eleven years and a casualty count the High Councils no longer publish. What remained was worth it.

The Hornets were not broken. They were and distilled. Only the converted survived Greater Good 'liberation' , and they are now among the most lethal close-assault units the Greater Good dominium.

Males of the species are born aerial hunters. Compound eyes. Instinctive three-dimensional awareness. Twin long-blades designed for the slash-and-wheel of high-speed airborne engagement — a combat discipline older than Greater Good doctrine and impossible to fully replicate in anything that didn't grow wings. They don't fly like infantry with jump packs. They move in agressive murmurations.

The title Greater Good race has never forgiven them for the cost. Casualty figures that quietly reshaped promotion lists and redrawn operational doctrines across an entire sector. The Hornets didn't ask to be conquered, and they made that felt in every engagement, every ridge line, every fortified tunnel the Greater Good bled through to take. That is not forgotten. In certain staff circles, the Hornets are spoken of the way you speak of something you wish you hadn't needed, with tight-jawed acknowledgment and no eye contact.

And yet. They are deployed. Consistently. Because the alternative is sending something slower, something that bleeds the same way the Hornets don't, something the Greater Good can afford to lose. The title race fears what the Hornets are. It fears, more quietly, what the battlefield looks like without them.

The sky darkens. The twin blades catch light. The Stingteam deploys.
