Description

The Batmobile later became the target of a scheme by Oswald Cobblepot to portray Batman as a criminal. Sabotaging the vehicle while Batman was elsewhere, the Penguin gained control of the Batmobile, using it on a destructive pleasure trip through the civilian-filled streets of Gotham before Batman managed to deactivate the device controlling the vehicle. Although released from Cobblepot's control, the incident had the desired effect, with Batman's public label as a criminal. To narrowly escape the GCPD, Batman was forced to eject the vehicle's side panels, transforming the Batmobile into the Batmissile. Designed specifically for the 1989 Batman movie, during production, Anton Furst looked at jet components from airplanes, war machines, and other vehicles in his quest to produce a car for a sharper, darker Batman than has ever been seen. previously. In the end the team opted for pure expressionism, taking into account the Salt Flat Racers designs of the 1930s and the Sting Ray machines of the 1950s to produce a variable tank for a car. The 1989 Batman scene where the Batmobile makes its way to the Batcave was partially filmed using a remote-controlled model of the Batmobile, propelled through a set of miniature forests.
