Spider Guard

Spider Guard 3D model

Description

The 3D Spider Guard is an advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) position that takes the traditional spider guard to the next level by creating more dynamic control over your opponent’s posture and limbs. In this position, you typically place one or both of your feet on your opponent's biceps or hips while gripping their sleeves, pants, or collar (depending on the rule set). The key difference from traditional spider guard is the elevation and angling of your legs, which allows you to create a three-dimensional structure of control.

In a 3D Spider Guard, you maintain heavy tension on your opponent’s arms and body by using your legs to push, pull, and elevate while constantly changing angles. This creates a versatile, fluid attacking platform that can transition into sweeps, submissions (like the spider guard armbar or triangle), and submissions like collar chokes, depending on your opponent's reactions.

The position is incredibly effective against opponents who are trying to break posture or establish grips themselves. The added elevation and leg positioning give you increased leverage and control, making it more difficult for your opponent to disengage or counter.

When executed properly, the 3D Spider Guard gives you a strong foundation for both sweeping your opponent or setting up submission attacks, while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to their movements. It’s a highly technical guard that requires precision and timing to master.
