The Douglas A-26A Invader was built during WWII as a strafing and low level medium bomber platform. It was used extensively in all theatres of the war including Europe, Middle East, Asia and the Pacific especially in the southwest pacific. These aircraft were used to attack ground positions, airfields and shipping to destroy enemy capability and resources. These aircraft were exceptionally successful and continued to serve the US through the following 20 years. They were armed with 6-14 machine guns of 30 or 50 caliber, 20 mm cannons and one version was equipped with a 75 MM anti tank gun to use against shipping and hardened ground targets.
