The Boeing 377 Stratocruiser was a large long-range airliner built after World War II. It was developed from the C-97 Stratofreighter, a military derivative of the B-29 Superfortress used for troop transport.Constellation. It began service in 1947 and continued until retired in 1961. Some of these Boeing 377 were heavily modified with extreme fuselage expansions. Called the guppies they were used for transporting large objects that would not normally fit in an aircraft. Some of these guppy versions were still flying in the 1980s.
